In 1992 five professional musicians united to form male vocal ensemble “Valaam”. A great number of pilgrims and tourists got the opportunity to know a rich culture of god service chant of the Orthodox church. The members of “Valaam” graduated from the Glinka choir college and the Rimsky-Korsakov music high-school in St-Petersburg as conductors and vocalists.

In summer they perform on the island and take part in ceremonial god service carried by His Holiness Patriarch Alexey II, who is hierohegumen of the monastery. The ensemble also is engaged in repeating new programmes and musical researching.

Since 1995 the ensemble had four tours in Germany and two in Finland with programmes of Orthodox music from XV-th century to the modern church music created in Russia, Bulgaria, Greece and Georgia, russian secular music of XIX cent. popular russian and ukranian folk songs.

Now the ensemble prepares for traditional tour in Germany / Bayern during advent time. (Look the plan of performances on page Tour Dates)

Now ensemble “Valaam” is open to new proposals and opportunities to enlarge its concert activity.
